New Mexico Prep Sports Academy (PG) (NMPSA) was created to give the student athletes of New Mexico an opportunity to showcase their skills academically as well as athletically at the college prep level. NMPSA is not a college. Student athletes are required to attend Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) located in Albuquerque, NM.
Student athletes who are selected to participate in NMPSA are required to take developmental courses or be a part-time student (part-time meaning anything less than 12 credit hours) so they can continue to increase their current grade point average (GPA) and not use any of their college eligibility in the process. Student athletes must have a high school diploma or GED to be considered for NMPSA (PG). Student athletes who are not National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) qualifiers, on completion of high school graduation, will be tutored in how to successfully complete the ACT/SAT exam. Study hall sessions will take place Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Professional licensed teachers, counselors, and qualified tutors from the local university along with the coaching staff of NMPSA will administer study hall.
This process will also assist the student athletes in becoming eligible through the NCAA Clearinghouse. During the student athletes’ time at NMPSA, the student athletes will receive life skills training on how to mature in life, conduct themselves in and out of a college classroom, and be given complete instructions on how to maximize their strengths in a collegiate weight room. One of NMPSA main objectives will be to assist the student athletes overall education and athletic career on to a four year university after the season with NMPSA. New Mexico Prep Sports Academy is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)3. New Mexico Prep Sports Academy will not accept any student athlete past the age of 21.
