7th Annual Native American Basketball Invitational

The 2009 NABI Youth Tournament which is the largest Native American basketball tournament comprised of high school athletes in North America takes place in Phoenix on July 7 - 11, 2009. The tournament is presented by Nike & the University of Phoenix. 

Two divisions will be displayed consisting of "Varsity" and "All-Star".   Varsity will be for teams that compete at a less competitive level of high school ball and All-Star will be for teams that compete at the highest levels of high school ball. This would include club teams, all-star teams or teams that compete at the National AAU level.

The tournament serves as an opportunity for Native American youth to further their education as well as to acquire visibility for their basketball aspirations.

Arizona Adidas Jr. Phenom Regional Camp

The Arizona Gorillas will be hosting grades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 Adidas Junior Phenom Camp on March 13, 14, and 15 at Williamsfield and Higley High Schools.

Every participant will receive a reversible Jr. Phenom jersey and shorts and a score card to help develop their game.

Girls Basketball Tryouts for 13 and Under

The Arizona Premier Girls basketball team is having tryouts for the 12U and 13U team.  Girls ages 12 and 13 are invited to try out.

Tryouts will be held Thursday, January 29th and Tuesday, February 3rd at 6:30pm at Arizona Premier Basketball Academy.

Multiple basketball tournaments this coming weekend.

The Martin Luther King weekend is usually a very busy club basketball tournament weekend.  Many top level youth club tournaments take place throughout the valley.  Some of the events are the MLK Classic, Xstream Development MLK Tournament and the Just4Hoopin MLK Tournament. Basketball Bonanza (Shooting Competition)

Basketball Bonanza is a one-day basketball event featuring a hotshot competition, three-point shootout and free throw contest.  Open to boys and girls 9 - 14 years of age.

Register through January 30 at either the Chandler Community Center, Environmental Education Center, Snedigar Recreation Center or Tumbleweed Recreation Center.

Registration will also be accepted on site at 8 a.m. on the day of the event. This event will be held at the Tumbleweed Recreation Center in the West Gym.

The 6th Annual MLK Basketball Classic will be held on the campus of Arizona State University at Wells Fargo Arena.  Five high school games will be played on Monday, January 19, 2009.

2009 Xstream Development First Annual MLK Winter Classic - Deadline is 1/13/2009

All-Star Basketball League Winter Season Begins

ABL winter season begins January 9th and will continue through February 28th.  The league ends with a playoff competition scheduled for March 13 and 14.  ABL offers 4 leagues: 

Farm Club:  Instructional division for 1st and 2nd graders.  A great opportunity for kids to learn the skills of basketball in a practice and game atmosphere.

Recreational:  For 3rd and 4th graders with limited basketball experience.  A great opportunity for kids to learn the skills of basketball in a practice and game atmosphere.

Competitive Grades 3rd - 8th:  This league offers several divisions:  Rookie 3rd & 4th grade, Miwest Valley 4th & 5th grade, Rocky Mountain 5th & 5th grade, Pacific Coast 6th & 7th grade, and Atlantic coast 7th & 8th grade.

Competitive High School Division:  Desert West Division is for 9th & 10th graders. 9th -12th grade leagues will resume in the spring 2009 season.
